The Docklands Project is a photographic research initiated in 2015. The starting point were the fringes of the city, in the disused docklands of Amsterdam, where Langendijk lives. He set out to document his rapidly changing home environment. As the project evolved it became an in-depth research into different systems that influence the transition of high profile harbour cities. Langendijk compares the conditions in the former docklands of Amsterdam, New York and London. Focusing on the high demand for living near the water, the project tries to get a grip on shifting demographics, waterfront development and gentrification. The work has resulted in a sub-series which research the place identity of these areas, and the people related to it.
The Docklands Project is supported by The Mondriaan Fund and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts.
